Taxis, Limousines & Ride Apps (Uber/Lyft) at O'Hare

Quick Questions About Taxis and Apps
- Where can I get a taxi? Official taxi stands are located on the lower level of each terminal, right outside baggage claim. This is the most direct option.
- What about Uber/Lyft? All rideshare services pick up passengers at a single centralized point in Terminal 2 (upper level). Be prepared for a long walk or take the ATS train to reach it.
- What is the simplest option? According to many travelers, taking a traditional taxi from the stand at your terminal is faster and less confusing than navigating to the chaotic rideshare area in Terminal 2.
- Any warnings? Yes! Do not accept rides from unsolicited drivers in any area. Use only official taxi stands or the app for Uber/Lyft.
Personalized Transport: Real User Experience
User Experience: Taxi services and platforms like Uber and Lyft are convenient options, but there are key differences at O'Hare. While traditional taxis are praised for their direct access at each terminal, the rideshare pickup zone at Terminal 2 is a recurring source of frustration. It is described as distant and chaotic—a hassle if you are traveling with lots of luggage or have limited mobility. Additionally, dynamic pricing during peak hours can double or triple the cost, making taxis a more predictable choice.
Limousine services offer a more luxurious alternative, ideal for business travelers, but it is essential to book in advance to ensure availability and avoid delays.
Passenger Tip: If using a rideshare app, have it ready before exiting the terminal and allow time to walk to the designated area in Terminal 2. If you prefer simplicity, the taxi stands at each terminal are a safer and more direct bet.
Taxis
Taxi stands are located curbside on the lower level (outside the baggage claim area) of each terminal, where you can get service to destinations in Chicago and the suburbs.
Make sure to board taxis from designated stands to ensure the driver is licensed. For your safety, do not accept rides from drivers outside taxi stands or from the departure level (upper level) of terminal corridors.
All taxis must have a working taximeter to calculate fares based on time and distance.
- Fares vary based on traffic, but the average fare from O'Hare to downtown Chicago is $50.00.
- Travel time (off-peak) is 30–40 minutes.
- To request accessible vehicles for wheelchairs, call Tel +1 888 928 2227.
A shared ride service is also available for those who want to split the trip and pay a flat rate to certain destinations. Fares from O'Hare include:
- Downtown: $24.00 per person
- McCormick Place: $24.00 per person
- Midway International Airport: $37.00 per person
Ridesharing (Uber / Lyft)

Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are available via mobile apps or digital platforms that connect passengers with rental vehicle drivers.
The pickup areas for these services are located at the following spots:
- Terminal 2: Waiting area on the upper level, between doors 2A and 2E.
- BLACK Zone A: North side, outside Lobby 2A.
- BLUE Zone B: Outside Lobby 2A.
- ORANGE Zone C: Outside Lobby 2B.
- GREEN Zone D: Outside Lobby 2E.
- Passengers must wait in the specified color zones until their vehicle arrives before proceeding to the designated pickup point. There is an indoor waiting area between lobbies 2A and 2D.
For more information about the rideshare program, visit the City of Chicago website.
Limousines
Limousines are available for both downtown Chicago and suburban destinations.
Contact your selected company near the reservation boards. You can also check the list of pre-arranged services located near the airport information desks in front of Door C, on the lower level of each terminal.
Pre-arranged Rides
If you have already arranged a ride with a limousine company, you should call the service once you’ve collected your luggage. They will provide the license plate number, a description of the vehicle, and/or the designated door number where you can meet your driver. Drivers are only allowed to meet passengers in designated areas along the center lane of the lower level (lane 2). Depending on traffic, it may take 5 to 20 minutes for the vehicle to arrive at the pickup point.
Meet and Greet at Baggage Claim
Some limousine services can arrange for their drivers to meet passengers directly at the baggage claim area. The driver may assist with luggage and escort the passenger directly to the vehicle. O’Hare provides designated limousine parking directly in front of each terminal. The walk to the vehicle typically takes 5 to 7 minutes.
